An ongoing study of the distinctive cooling towers that remain standing following the closing of the Trent Valley Coal Fired Power Stations. Three power station sites (Ratcliffe, Castle Donington and Willington) were visible from my rural village, and despite their enviromentally sensitive location surrounded by the open fields and bountiful nature of the Trent Valley, I always thought the shape of the cooling towers was strangely beautiful and yet so imposing and dominant of the skyline. The Castle Donington towers have been totally demolished, and the land is now an industrial estate; Willington's five towers survive for the time being, while the Ratcliffe site has only recently begun to be decommissioned, with all 8 magnificent towers remaining untouched at present.
